Daniel Thomas Kenney, 70, passed away at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Christian North East Hospital in St. Louis, MO.


He was born in Alton, IL on November 27, 1942 the son of the late Thomas and Theresa (Maloney) Kenney.

He married Beth Pohlman on October 5, 1968 in Alton, IL.  

Daniel worked for the Illinois State Employment Service as an Employment Representative for 35 years. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, East End Improvement and the Alton-Wood River Sportsman’s Club. He also served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Dan was an avid runner, sports fan and strong pro-life advocate.

He is survived by his wife Beth of Godfrey; one son and his spouse, Nicholas and Kathleen Kenney; four daughters and their spouses, Angela and David Knickmeyer of St. Charles, MO, Megan and Michael Burke of Weaton, IL, Rebecca and William Smythe of O’Fallon, MO and Emily Kenney of Chesterfield, MO; his mother, Mary Marjorie Kenney of Wood River, IL; one sister, Judith Pete of Munster, IN; one brother and his spouse, Michael and Barbara Mossman of Edwardsville, IL; eight grandchildren, Donald and Daniel Knickmeyer, Allyson, Grace, and Ryan Burke, Patrick and Thomas Smythe and Jillian Kenney.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 1 pm to 4 pm on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.

In celebration of his life, funeral mass will be at 10:30 am on Monday, February 4, 2013 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Father Steve Pohlman as celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.

Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Pro-Life Committee, St. Ambrose Catholic Church or Marquette High School.
