Daniel McPherson

Daniel McPherson, 89, went to be with the Lord at 12:00 am Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side.   

He was born April 28, 1926 in Scott County, MO, the son of Henry and Laura (Doty) McPherson.

He married Virginia Harper on October 10, 1943 in Diehlstadt, MO.  She preceded him in death on July 19, 2009.

Dan served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Parks Destroyer Escort during WWII.  He was an electrician at Laclede Steel for many years until his retirement in 1982.  He was a faithful member of the Rosewood Heights 1st General Baptist Church and served as a deacon for 44 years.  He was a master mason and a 50 year member with the Bethalto Masonic Lodge.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He is survived and will be dearly missed, by his children and their spouses, Danny (Janie) McPherson of Sikeston, MO, Norma Gayan of East Alton and Mike (Pam) McPherson of Bethalto; nine grandchildren, Jimmy, Debbie, Tammie, Gwen, Bobbie, Robert Jr, Karissa, Justin and David; several great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; a sister, Della Mauro of Alabama and several nieces and nephews.   

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gross, a son-in-law, Robert Gayan, a grandson, Jared McPherson, six brothers and five sisters.   

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Rosewood Heights 1st General Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday, April 8, 2016 at the church with Pastor Dan Smith  officiating.

Burial will follow at Woodland Hills in East Alton with military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308. 

Memorials may be made to the Rosewood Heights 1st General Baptist Church.
