Dale E. Ontis

Dale E. Ontis, age 80, went to be with the Lord at 6:03 am on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Alton, IL on March 1, 1932, the son of the late Charles “Tommy” and Lottie (Hessenauer) Ontis.

He married C. Jo Anne (Schenk) at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Alton on June 20, 1953  and she survives.

Dale was employed at Albrecht Hamlin Chevrolet as an Auto Body Tech for 40 years, retiring in 1993.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, he enjoyed wood working and making furniture, doing body work on the side, working on cars and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by seven children, Terry D. Ontis of Godfrey, Tim E. Ontis of Alton, T. Diane Varble of Grafton, Tom D. and his wife Regina Ontis of Brevard, NC, Tony J. Ontis of Alton, Todd M. Ontis of Alton and Tricia J. and husband Steve Dawson of Indianapolis IN; eight grandchildren, Christopher Ontis, Nicholas Ontis, Travis Varble, Tone’ Stewart, Kyle Ontis, Emily Ontis, Henry Dawson and Max Ontis; twelve great grandchildren, Trenton, Conner, Rylee, Kaylee, Tyler, Paige, Caden, Gavin, Kida, Wesley, Josie and Jacob, several nephews, nieces and good friends, Bill and Bonnie Harris of  Alton.

Preceded in death by, his parents, one brother, John Ontis, two sisters, Patsy (Pete) Monroe and Mary Ann Cochran, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Anna (Fluck) Schenk and two brothers-in-law Ronald and Jay Schenk.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Thursday, September 20, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.

Memorials may be made to the St. Labre Indian School, P.O. Box 216 Ashland, MT, 59003-9989 and or the American Cancer Society.
