Dale “Buck” Buchanan, 69, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015 at his home.

Born Aug. 12, 1945 in Alton, he was the son of John L. and Lillie (Henry) Buchanan.

He married Jo Ann Bradshaw Aug. 5, 1966 in Albany, Ga.  She survives.

Buck was a forklift mechanic for Jefferson Smurfit in Alton for 23 years.  A Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a member of the American Legion in Jerseyville, the Marine Corps League, and a lifetime member of the VFW.  He enjoyed woodworking. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he would do anything for his precious grandkids.  He enjoyed hot rod cars, especially his Dodge Coronet, and he also was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast.   

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Joseph Jennings of Tulsa, Okla.; 2 granddaughters, Shelby Buchanan and Kathi Jo Buchanan; a great granddaughter, Realyn Buchanan; 2 sisters, Shirley (Randy) Cox of Snow Flake, Ariz. and Neva (O.D.) Wingard of Tulsa, Okla.; dear cousins Willie and Francis Crain; a daughter-in-law, Ann Baruxen of South Roxana; and many loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John D. Buchanan; and a sister, Linda Scharth.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14.  Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
