Cynthia Ann Buxton, 58, of Glen Cove, NY formerly of Alton, died at her family home in Alton at 5 pm on December 6, 2012 surrounded by family and friends after a brief battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
She was born February 18, 1954 in Alton, the daughter of the late Charles and Evelyn (Janak) Buxton.
Cynthia was a graduate of Alton Senior High School and a proud graduate of The University of Kansas and Washington University.
Cindi worked in the financial industry for thirty years in Texas, Missouri and New York, currently with JP Morgan Chase in New York.
Cindi was a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts of America. Her passion for Scouting began as a young girl and continued as an adult. Throughout her career she served the Girl Scouts in many capacities. She served on the board of the directors for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri where she received their highest honor, given to volunteers The Thanks Award. Cindi was also active with Altrusa International; serving since 1990, she attained numerous elected positions including President of the St. Louis Club, Treasurer of the Eighth District, and elected as Trustee of Altrusa International Foundation at the time of her death was serving as the immediate past Chairperson.
She continued her father’s interest in genealogy by serving several years as Treasurer, Vice-President and President of the Buxton Family Association. She was a fifteen year survivor of breast cancer and a lifelong member of The Episcopal Parish of Alton.
She is survived by her siblings, Charles H. Buxton – Alton, IL, Michael P. Buxton – Elkridge, MD, Rebecca C. Buxton, Matthew J. Fitzgerald – brother in law, and Henry J. Fitzgerald – nephew – Sammamish, WA.
Visitation will be 9 AM until the time of Mass at 11 AM Friday December 14, 2012 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alton with Father David Boase officiating.
Burial will follow at Alton City Cemetery.
