Clifford B. Hard, 88, passed away at 8:05 am, Saturday February 18, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center.
He was born in Springfield, IL on October 8, 1923 the son of the late Harold K. and Annette (Whiteside) Hard.
On June 16, 1946, he married Dorothy M. Fay in Alton. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2009.
Clifford served his country during World War II as a Tech Sergeant for over two years. During that time he earned European, African, and Middle Eastern overseas bars, as well as two bronze battle stars, good conduct medal, and a WWII victory medal. After being Honorably Discharged from the Army he worked for over 37 years at Illinois Power as an assistant plant supervisor and as office supervisor.
He was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church as well as a past Worshipful Master of the Piasa Masonic Lodge #27. He loved fishing, golfing, and painting.
He is survived by three sons, Steve Hard of Bethalto, Terry Hard of Alton, and Randy Hard and his wife Donna of Alton; one daughter and her husband Nancy and Michael Dugge of Godfrey; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy and Nicholas Williams, Michael Hard and companion Tracy Ziegler, Lisa Scaturro, Chris and Meghan Hard, Adam and Heather Hard, Jennifer Hard, Jeff Hard and companion Ashley Jackson, Jessica and Todd Applegate, Kathryn Hard and companion Quentin Stiritz, Ashleigh and Derek Austill, and Matthew Hard; twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild; and one sister Bonnie M. McCourtney of Woodstock, GA.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one brother Harold K. Hard Jr. and one sister Anna Mae Patterson.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm Tuesday February 21, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 am February 22, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL with Rev. Jame Hahs officiating. Masonic Rites will also be accorded.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
Military Rites will be conducted by Alton Post 1308 Ritual Team.
