Clarabel Marguarite Park, 102, passed on March 13, 2012 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee, Illinois. Born on January 18, 1910 in Medora, IL, to Effie May (Richey) and Sylvester Stampe, Clarabel attended Brown's Secretarial College and worked as a secretary typist at the Olin Corporation. She married George Wesley Park in Alton, Illinois on July 5, 1930 and together, they had one son, Donald Wesley. Clarabel was a long time resident of Godfrey, Illinois. She was an active member of the Elm Street Presbyterian Church of Alton, where she was an avid quilter and an active member of the Ladies’ Aid. Clarabel enjoyed reading and traveling, but sewing was her passion and she was an award winning quilter. She was as admired for her sewing talents as well as her chocolate chip cookies. Clarabel was preceded in death by her mother Effie, father Sylvester, brothers; Howard Stampe, Wilson W. Stampe, John Harold Stampe and son Donald W. Park. She is survived by her sister Virginia Kubernat, daughter-in-law Monika Leonard Park of De Queen, AR, her grandchildren Matthew Park of San Francisco, CA, Rachel McCameron of LeRoy, IL, Amy Park of Bloomington, IL, and Andrew Park of Washington, D.C., great grandchildren Samuel Redd and Cooper McCameron and former daughter-in-law and care taker Helen Park of Kewanee, IL.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012.
