After having the opportunity to say farewell to everyone she loved Christina Fillop died at 6:01 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born August 16, 1923 in Schluderns, Italy, she was the daughter of Josef and Elisabeth (Wegmann) Wallnofer. She married John Fillop on February 4, 1945 in Kitzbuhel, Austria. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1992. Mrs. Fillop was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She enjoyed family get-togethers and never met a stranger. She loved going on walks and cooking great ethnic food. Surviving are three daughters, Rita Nugent (Greg) of Alton, Anna M. Fillop of Alton and Yolanda Hechenberger of Kitzbuhel, Austria, three sons, John P. Fillop (Kyong Ae) of Martinez, GA, Steven J. Fillop of Alton, and Anthony L. Fillop of Alton, 12 grandchildren including Chris Fillop of Alton and Julie Cope (Mark) of Overland, MO, 24 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, one sister, Maria Wallnofer of Kitzbuhel, Austria, and special friends, Margaret Wolff, Karen and Terry Tavernier, Mike and Vicki Booher and family, Shelly Ridder and Sherrie Morris, a former daughter-in-law, Denise Kiefer of Godfrey Monsignor Kenneth Steffen. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Blanche R. Ward, two sons, Meinard and Frank Fillop, and three brothers, Hans, Louis, and Josef Wallnofer. Farewell to our Best Mama until we can all be together once again. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Monsignor Kenneth Steffen will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or BJC Hospice.
