Cherie Burgess

Cherie Michelle Burgess, 58, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Hospice Home, Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville.

Born Oct. 21, 1955 at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, she was a daughter of Gerald and Marilyn (Crane) Hammond.

She married Scott Burgess in a surprise wedding ceremony Dec. 23, 1984.  

Survivors include her loving husband Scott, her three children, Trina Bellamy and fiancé Chris Yenne, Diana Lynn Owens and Missy Burgess; grandchildren Lexi, Nic and Brie Bellamy, Elaina and Aidan Yenne, Tony Burgess and wife Ayla, and Josiah Owens;  great grandchildren, Skylee Kay and Payton Michelle Burgess; sister Dianne and spouse Rector Selhime of Roxana; brothers, Charles Hammond and wife Jinhui of Rosewood Heights, and Aaron Hammond and wife Julie of Mission, Kan.; brother-in-law, Skip Burgess and wife Sue of Paducah, Ken.; nieces and nephews Sarah Hammond of  Boston, Mass., Charles Hammond, Jr. of Oren, Utah, Emily Selhime of Roxana, Drew, Danielle and Christian Hammond of Mission, Kan., Polly and Michael Jackson and their children, Ben and Hannah, all of Washington, Mo., Jake and Jill Burgess of Kentucky, and many, many cousins and spouses and their children.  She is also survived by two aunts, Patricia Mitchell (late husband Conrad) and Marian Hammond and husband “Uncle Jim”, both from whom she purchased the family business, Roxana Day Care.  

The day care was in business providing child care and preschool for over 49 years, and Cherie enjoyed being the owner, operator, and head Baby Lover all the years she worked there.  She and her husband enjoyed being the host and hostess at the Day Care for many enjoyable, memorable family holiday parties and cousin parties over the years.

A visitation will be Saturday, June 14 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights from 2-5 p.m.  Cherie will be cremated and did not wish any flowers, but friends and family may make memorial donations to Oasis Women’s Shelter in Alton, the Lupus Foundation of America-Heartland Organizaton, or Hospice of Southern Illinois-Relais Bonne Eau Hospice Home.
