Charles Lowe

Charles W. Lowe, 80, passed away at 5:25 am Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his home with his family by his side. 

 

He was born on July 13, 1930 in Rosedale, IL, the son of Charles J. and Cecelia I. (Cope) Lowe. 

 

He married Alma Louise Dunnagan on June 14, 1952 in Alton, IL.  She survives.



Charles served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War with the 2nd division infantry, receiving three bronze stars and numerous other medals.  He was a foreman for Dugger’s Swimming Pools in Bethalto until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Cottage Hills VFW Post 7678. He was a man of Baptist faith, loved to garden, fish and mushroom hunt.  Most of all he loved spending time with family and friends. 



In addition to his wife of 58 years, Alma Louise Dunnagan Lowe, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim Lowe (Renault) and Vicki Renault-Lowe of Meadowbrook and Gary Lowe of Mount Olive, IL; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Gene Zook of Meadowbrook; twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. 


He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.



Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, January 10, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Ray Robinson officiating.



Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors.



Memorials may be made to the Cottage Hills VFW Post 7678.
