Charles Robert “Bob” Camp

Charles Robert “Bob” Camp, 73, died January 26, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.  Bob was born in Alton on January 23, 1939, the son of the late Charles F. and Hazel Ferne (Turley) Camp.  Bob graduated from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville Campus in 1972.  Shortly after his graduation he began his career in construction as a site superintendent.  In 1973 he started Camp Construction Company which he operated in the Alton/Godfrey area and in Roaring Gap, NC, until his retirement in 2005.  Bob had a passion for designing and building homes, and he greatly cared for the people he employed and the customers whose respect he valued immensely.  While Bob lived in the Alton area he was a member of the 12thStreet Presbyterian Church and Elm Street Presbyterian Church.  After he moved away from the Alton area he joined the Episcopal Church.  He became a very active member of Galloway Memorial Episcopal Church in Elkin, NC where he served God through the church in whatever capacity was necessary.  Bob regarded his family as the most important part of his life.  He was the son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law and uncle who touched your life and made a difference.  When he was not busy working or spending time with his family then he would be on a golf course.  He loved playing golf in any part of the country, but most especially in the beautiful mountains of Alleghany County, NC.  He also spent time working in his garden and tending to his constant companion “Miss Kitty.”  He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 39 years, Carol,  of Pfafftown, NC; sons: C. Christopher Camp, Orlando, FL, and Dirk Camp (Theresa), Mt. Dora, FL; daughters, Leslie Fisher Hanson, St. Joseph, MO, and Kelly Fisher Kliman (Mark), Winston-Salem, NC.  Grandchildren: Brianna and Alysia Hanson; Brittany, Zackary, Chevin and Luke Camp; and Tyler and Annalea Kliman.  He is survived by his sister, Patricia Reed (Alvin), Brighton, and brother, F. Thomas Camp (Glenna), Alton.  A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.  This service will take place during lent and there will be no flowers in the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 10 East 3rd Street, Alton, IL 62002, Galloway Memorial Episcopal Church, 310 West Main Street, Elkin, NC 28621, and the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health, 11601 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025 or online at the John Ritter Foundation.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
