Charles Edward “Woody” Woods, 79, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday, June 7, 2013. He was born January 2, 1934 in Alton the son of the late Leo B. and Helen S. (Shrigley) Woods.

He owned and operated Woody’s Standard station in North Alton. He retired as an assistant Chief with the Godfrey Fire Department after over 30 years of service. He was currently a self-employed HVAC repair man.

On October 15, 1960 in Alton he married Barbara Basden and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters; Glenda Plopper (Kevin) of Alton, Christy White (Bud) of Godfrey and Penny Torrez (Ray) of Alton. Five grandchildren; Shannon Sanders (Doug), Julie Plopper, Brittany Ruyle (Andy), Kailynn White and Tyler Torrez, five great grandchildren; Jacob, Sophie, Lauren, Carsen and Jaxson, one sister; Elizabeth Woods of Alton and one brother; Marlow Woods of Brighton. He was preceded in death by two sisters; Martha Phillips and Ruth Craig, and two brothers; H. Benton Woods and Donald Woods.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at GENT Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday with Reverend Don E. Long Jr. to officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
