Charles R. Burns of Shipman, IL passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 10:30 am.
Born in Shipman, IL, he was the son of William and Catherine (Drew) Burns. He married Mary L. (Podhorn) Burns on October 4, 1958 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Alton. She passed away March 9, 2025. They were long time members of St. Denis Catholic Church in Shipman until its closing and then became members of Holy Ghost Parish in Jerseyville. He served in the Army from 1955-1957.
He is survived by seven sons, seven daughters, six sons-in-law and seven daughters-in-law. Robert and Janice Burns, Thomas and Jackie Burns, Michael and Melanie Burns, Mary St. Peters and Bob Gonzales, Joseph and Julie Burns, Rita and John Craig, Joan and Eric Gowin, Carol and Lindell Loy, Nancy and Matt Buhs, David and Kari Burns, James and Amy Burns, Sarah and Adam Calloway, Daniel and Heather Burns and Julie and Andrew Bartlett. They thought the world of him and had great respect for him. He is also survived by thirty-seven grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Burns, along with other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Lynch and Helen Allen and his brother, John Burns.
There will be no visitation.
Friends are invited to join the family to Celebrate a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday June 7, 2025, at 10:00am at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Jerseyville, IL with Father Ramesh Matta as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery in Shipman.
Memorials may be made to mass intentions at Holy Ghost Catholic Church or St. Denis Cemetery, Shipman.
