Charles Alexander Godfrey

Charles Alexander Godfrey, 87, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Blu Fountain in Godfrey. He was born January 16, 1928 in Portage Des Sioux, MO the son of the late Edward and Annie (Worthey) Godfrey. He attended Grafton School in Grafton, IL and attended Ranken Technical School. He was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from January 4, 1946 to November 9, 1948.

He then re-enlisted in the Army from July 6, 1959 to March 27, 1963. He went on to work at the Ford Plant as a time keeper and in quality control retiring in January of 1990 after 28 years. Mr. Godfrey was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. He enjoyed fishing and loved the Cubs and liked the Cardinals. On January 11, 1958 in Grafton, he married Ellen Louise Callahan. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter; Christina M. Wooff (Jeffrey) of Alton, six sons; Michael E. (Margaret) of Gulf Breeze, FL, Daniel J. of Dow, Stephen M. of Godfrey, Timothy J. of Dow, Anthony P. (Julia) of Godfrey and David A. (Ellen) of Godfrey, eight grandchildren; Brittany, Brianna, Ryan, Grace, Lauren, Justin, Brooke, and Corinne, one great grandson, Kamdon, one sister and brother-in-law, Sophia (Maurice) Montgomery and a special cousin; Garnet Clay. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Edward, Chester, Stephen, and Roy and two sisters; Viola Ramel and Eleanor Wooster.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Father Steve Pohlman officiating. Burial will be at Scenic Hill Cemetery Grafton, IL.
