Charles A. Hodge Jr., 86, died at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011 at his home in Godfrey. Born May 25, 1925 in Alton, he was the son of Charles A. and Helen E. (Malloy) Hodge Sr. He graduated from SS Peter & Paul Elementary School and Marquette Catholic High School in Alton. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired as a carpenter with John Kleinschnittger Construction. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton and the Carpenter’s Local 377. On May 1, 1946 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Alton, he married the former Marjorie Kleinschnittger. She preceded him in death on August 23, 2008. Surviving is a daughter, Linda G. Armstrong and her husband Donald of Mill Creek, Washington, two sons, Charles Robert Hodge and his wife Julie of Godfrey, and Michael F. Hodge and his wife Beatrice of Dallas, TX, six grandchildren, Erik and Marla Armstrong of Redondo Beach, CA, Amy Armstrong of Everett, WA, Dustin and Abbie Hodge of Godfrey, Ashley and Derek Walter of Bethalto, and Christine Hodge and John Hodge both of Dallas, TX, four great grandchildren, Kiley Amy and Kayla Ann Armstrong, Grace Kathleen Armstrong, and Austin Hodge, and one sister, Betty Banes of Ponte Vedra, Florida. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
