Catherine “Kitty” Kulenkamp, 89, of Peoria, IL formerly of Granite City, IL passed away peacefully on January 1, 2022.
She was born on August 27, 1932, in Granite City, IL to Roswell and Hannah Kleinschmidt. She married Gilbert “Jack” Kulenkamp, the love of her life, on May 10, 1952. They had celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Jack survives, along with their children, Ron (Gaye) Kulenkamp and Linda (Mark) Joseph of Peoria; a brother, Earl (Cecelia) Kleinschmidt of Granite City, IL; grandchildren: Matt Kulenkamp of Reno, NV, Katherine (Jacob) Schoonover of Lawrence, KS, Tom (Laura) Joseph of Peoria, and Kristina (Jacob) Rockhold of Fuquay Varina, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Kenley Schoonover. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Sue Sepke, and a beautiful granddaughter, Kara Gaye Kulenkamp.
Catherine was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She attended school in Granite City, IL where she enjoyed singing in events and church choirs.
Catherine went on to achieve the titles of Miss Granite City and Miss Illinois in 1950. She was the youngest contestant in the Miss America pageant. She was a homemaker, volunteered for numerous events, and was on the committee to elect Senator Paul Simon. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed watching any event they were participating in.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd., Granite City, IL at 3:00 p.m. with visitation an hour prior.
