Carrie L. Wooten, 88, formerly of Alton, passed away peacefully at 5:40 a.m. Saturday June 15, 2013, at the Fountains IV in Godfrey. Carrie was a self-employed beautician and retired in 2005 after 45 years of service.

Carrie was born in Clinton, Arkansas on December 26, 1924 to Sam and Susie Caldwell. In 1943, she married the late Billie J. Wooten and worked as a civilian defense worker during the latter part of WWII. After the war, they had three children: Billie D. Wooten (Brenda) of Valparaiso, In., Susan J. Wooten Carrington of Creve Coeur, Mo., and Terry J. Wooten (Linda) of Godfrey. She had three grandchildren: Billy D. Wooten, Lori Wooten Mouser, and Courtney A. Rothman. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister.

A heartfelt appreciation and thank you to everyone at the Fountains IV in Godfrey where Carrie made her home for the last two years of her life. Everyone there loved and cared for her. Thank you to Family Hospice of Belleville, Il for their wonderful support and kindness during this troubling time. Her nurse, caregivers, and volunteers that came had a special thoughtfulness for her and were very supportive. She was a wonderful mother and will be sadly missed by everyone that knew and loved her. Her smile and her kindness will stay in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Ralph Blake will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the 5A’s Animal Shelter in Alton.
