Carolyn Sue Chestney

Carolyn Sue Chestney died the morning of November 6, 2010.  She died unexpectedly at the age of 67. 

She was born on September 22, 1943 in Paris, IL, the daughter of Allen and Sarah (Glick) Carey of Ft. Meyers, FL.  The family moved to Bloomington, IL where Carolyn graduated from Bloomington High School in 1961.  During her high school years she was a candy striper at the hospital and was also a life guard at the public swimming pool.  After high school she attended Bradley University at Peoria, IL and graduated from their Registered Nursing program in 1964.  Later that year Carolyn married James K. Chestney.  Carolyn returned to college for a second degree, earning a BS in Nursing in 1986 from McKendree College at Lebanon, IL.  She worked at Wood River Community Hospital for 22years.  She then worked for Preferred Health and did home nursing until retiring in 1999. 

Carolyn is survived by her mother and father, her husband, James K. Chestney, three sons, James A. Chestney and his wife Kim of Medora, and their children, Ryan, Jordan and James D., Jeffrey Chestney and his wife Myrt of Pensacola, FL and their children, Brandon, Alex, Tucker and Emma, and Robert Chestney and his wife Kim of Godfrey and their children, Hobbie, Erin and Justin, one daughter, Carey Cox and her husband Chad of Alton and their children, Amanda, Jenna, Gracie and Lauren, and her sister, Cindy Freed and her husband Chuck. 

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday. Reverend Don E. Long Jr. will officiate. 

Burial will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Godfrey First United Methodist Church prayer garden, 1100 Airport Rd., Godfrey, IL 62035.
