Carolyn Lloyd
Godfrey |
Carolyn Reta Lloyd died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at her residence in Cedar Creek of Godfrey.
She was born December 9, 1934, in Alton, IL to John W. and LaVerne (Fichtel) Miller. She graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, and shortly thereafter married her childhood friend, later sweetheart, and finally her best friend Earle R. Lloyd on Aug 17, 1956, in Alton. He preceded her in death.
One to never grow up, she saw life through a child’s eye. In fact, she never got out of grade school. She was an elementary school teacher for 47 years, teaching mostly 1st grade in Cottage Hills, then numerous Alton Public Schools, Mississippi Valley Christian School, and Westminster Christian Academy. She was caring and selfless toward her students and worked feverishly without ceasing on their behalf, all in tandem with her husband who complimented all of her work with his volunteer efforts and support. After three attempts at retirement, she finally succeeded and enjoyed a fruitful, happy and rewarding retirement.
Her church and her family were most important to her. Carolyn was a loyal and active lifelong member of Brown Street Baptist Church. She had a well-known love for Christmas and for Christ. She loved her 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren beyond measure. She would do anything for those children who were so greatly loved. She traveled frequently over the years to visit her sons and grandchildren to locations coast to coast.
She was an ideal example of a Christian, a mother, and a grandmother, and a good friend to many. She also held strong bonds to her German heritage, which she enjoyed immensely, starting with her grandfather who immigrated to the U.S. as a young boy, her two trips to his homeland in Germany, visits with her husband to Frankenmuth, Michigan, and numerous visits with family to include German festivals in Texas.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Deanna Lloyd of Godfrey, Brian and Wendie Lloyd of Alton, and Richard and Machille Lloyd of Godfrey; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Jean Miller of Chesterfield, MO, and 11 grandchildren, Wendy, Rebecca, Eric, Justin, Megan, Kathryn, John, Jacob, Sarah, Daniel, and Andrew.
Visitation will be 9 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 10 AM on Monday, January 10, 2022, at Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton. Grandson, Pastor Eric Lloyd, will officiate.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing, occupancy, and mask-wearing guidelines will be followed as mandated by the CDC.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Brown Street Baptist Church or Mississippi Valley Christian School in Alton.
