Carolyn R. (Hohman) Walters, 81, passed away Monday January 30, 2012 at 12:00 pm, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO, with her family by her side. She was born on July 31, 1930 in Centralia, IL the daughter of Fred & Florence (Francois) Greenwood. She married Bernard Hohman on November 4, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1991. She then married Charlie Walters on June 11, 1994, and he preceded her in death on April 11, 2004. Carolyn worked at the Hayner Public Library as a librarian for 23 years until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a former board member of Alton Catholic Children’s Home. She was also a hospice volunteer and a member of the Alton Community Service League. She is survived by three daughters, Michelle Sholar of Godfrey, Cam (Larry) Wickenhauser of Hamburg, IL, and Maria (Arthur) Blair of Caledonia OH; three sons Brock (Linda) Hohman of Washington MO, Chris Hohman of Peoria AZ, John Hohman and his partner Tom Walsh of Annapolis, MD; eleven grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Megan Sholar; Ed, Andy (Chasity) Wickenhauser; Tony and James Blair, Stephen and Sarah Hohman, Danny and Elizabeth Hohman; two great grandchildren Luke and Ethan Wickenhauser; three step sons, Paul (Gina) Walters of Alton, Mike (Chris) Walters of Godfrey, and Matt Walters of St. Louis; one brother Dr. James Greenwood of Garden City KS; two sisters in law Shirley (Wes) Ferrell of Boynton Beach FL and Patricia (Gene) Wasco of Arlington Heights IL, and one nephew Michael Wasco. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Thursday February 2, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Friday February 3, 2012 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton, IL with Fr. Jerry Wickenhauser officiating Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Hayner Public Library.
