Carolyn Pennell (Reed) Kozicky, went to be with the Lord at 10:52 am on Thursday, July 16, 2015.
She was born on April 4, 1918 in Skowhegan, Maine, the daughter of the late Charles Granville and Sarah Pennell Reed.
She married the late Edward L. Kozicky on June 14, 1941 in Portland, Maine.
Carolyn attended the University of Maine, majoring in Home Economics, but her true talent was in music. Her late husband Edward Kozicky always said he fell in love with Carolyn while listening to her sing “Ave Maria” one Sunday in Church.
For over 65 years Carolyn studied music and shared her superb voice through solos and performances. Her concerts as a folk singer, accompanying herself on the autoharp and her solos in church were enjoyed by many. She sang in church choirs in State College, Pennsylvania, Ames, Iowa and Godfrey receiving a Certificate of Appreciation on her 95th birthday for her 45 years of ministry and service to the music ministries at Godfrey First United Methodist Church.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother and dedicated volunteer. In 1996 she received the Leadership Award from the Illinois Hospital Association after 35 years of volunteer work at Alton Memorial Hospital. She also volunteered at North Junior High School, at the Alton Psychiatric Hospital, and drove cancer patients to hospitals for treatments.
She is survived by: son Edward Franklin Kozicky of Hardin, IL and his friend Betty Miser; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah & Douglas Fisk of Houston, TX, grandson Todd and wife Jill Fisk, great-grandchildren Gracen, Griffin and Ryan, granddaughter Elizabeth and husband Jon Tarkington, great-grandchildren Sam and Evelyn; and son and daughter-in-law Charles & Ronda Kozicky of Granite City, IL, grandson Todd & wife Heather Kozicky, great-grandchildren Paige and Hunter, granddaughter Shauna Kozicky, great-grandchildren Chance and Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward L. Kozicky and sister Elizabeth Reed Lillibridge.
Visitation will be Monday, July 20, 2015 from 4 to 7 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10 am at the Godfrey 1st United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery in Batchtown, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to Godfrey 1st United Methodist Church.
