Caroline Korilko, 96, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Alton.
She was born March 6, 1907 in Granite City, IL, the daughter of Louis and Lydia (Vargo) Kocsis. On May 6, 1939 she married her husband, John Korilko. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1991 after 52 years of marriage.
They lived in Granite City until 1956 when they moved to Alton. She was a homemaker most of her life but in earlier years was employed by Forest City manufacturing in St. Louis, Missouri, as a dress designer’s model. A devout Christian, she was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and especially enjoyed her Sunday school class.
In her last years, St. Anthony’s adult day care gave her much pleasure and support. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Frank Kocsis, Marie Johnson, Louis Kocsis, Steve Kocsis, Lillian Kocsis and James L. Kocsis.
Surviving are her daughters; Karen Janice Reid (Larry) of Alton, Judith Jeffery of St. Louis, Linda Korilko of Alton and Kathleen Grapperhaus of St. Louis. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Todd (Amy) Reid of Houston, TX, Amy (Rob) Turell of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Caroline (Darrell) Simmons of Chicago, Jonathan Jeffery of Pinole, CA, Will (Brandy) Grapperhaus of Huntsville, AL, and John (Bizzy) Grapperhaus of St. Louis. She has thirteen great-grandchildren; Samuel and Will Reid, Michael and Jenna Turell, Whitney, Taylor and Grant Simmons, Amelia, Liam and Ellie Grapperhaus and Scout, Justice and Flint Grapperhaus.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church on Washington Ave. in Alton. Reverend Andre’ Dobson to officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL.
