Carol Kelly

Jerseyville |

JERSEYVILLE – Carol Jean (Geisler) Kelly, 74, died at 8:25 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025 in the comfort of her own home.

She was born in Alton, Illinois on August 24, 1950, one of four daughters born to the late Lester Charles “Bus” and Jessie Emma (Bock) Geisler.

Carol grew up in Arizona, but the place she always considered to “home” was Brighton, Illinois.

She married Danny Lee Kelly on December 26, 1968 in Lansing, Michigan. Throughout their 48 years of marriage, they were blessed with many wonderful memories raising their two daughters, and the joys that came with their three grandchildren that followed. Danny preceded Carol in death on August 27, 2017.

Carol was a beloved homemaker for many years. While there were various periods of time she worked outside of the home, home was truly where her heart was.

Simply put, Carol loved life. Whether she was spending time in her flower beds, crocheting, spending time with her family, or fishing, she enjoyed the calmness and serenity of the life she lived.

Carol had a unique and genuine personality, and a heart full of love. She loved hard, strong and unconditionally. She was the best mom, sister, friend anyone could have ever asked for, and now, a beloved angel watching over them all.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Tammy and Tony Gunterman of Fieldon and Cindy Cummings of Jerseyville; three grandchildren, Samantha and Jason Rawe of Jerseyville, Kasey and Tyler Bauer of Greenfield and Jordan and Adreona Retherford of Jerseyville; seven great grandchildren, Clayton Bauer, Madison Gettings, Paislee Gettings, Adain Retherford, Dani Cummings, Mason Retherford and James Retherford; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Judy and Dave Lewis of Jerseyville, Donna Clendenny of Jerseyville and Bonnie Lemme of Rockbridge; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Allen “Freddy” Geilser; her grandparents; as well as a niece and nephew.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Services at 12 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

In the spirit of Carol always seeking to take care of her family, memorials may be given to the family.
