Carol Irene (Roy) Roach, age 83, passed away peaceably surrounded by her family at 1:31 am, Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
She was born in Chicago, IL on August 28, 1926 the daughter of the late August and Irene (Payse) Roy.
She married John Thomas Roach at Our Savior Church in Jacksonville, IL on December 29, 1947. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1980.
Carol received her bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology & Audiology from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL and her Masters Degree in Speech Pathology & Audiology from the University of Illinois. She worked as a speech pathologist and teacher prior to her career as a case manager with the Division of Specialized Care for Children at the University of Illinois of Chicago, IL, where she worked until her retirement in 2008 at the age of 82. During her life she was active in the Junior Service League, the Alton Children’s Theatre and the Easter Seals Society. She was a long-time board member for the William BeDell ARC and a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Alton for 58 years.
She is survived by her nine children and their spouses; Cheri and Don Spillman of Houston, TX, Kevin Roach and his wife Niamh Ring of Brooklyn, NY, John Michael “Mike” Roach of Alton, Brian and Barbra Roach of Ashburn, VA, John Thomas “Chip” and Tammy Roach of Terre Haute, IN, Steven Roach of Godfrey, IL, Patrick and Shelly Roach of Chesterfield, MO, Michelle Roach of Clayton, MO and Todd Roach and Deborah Kardane of Brattleboro, VA; twenty grandchildren, Justin, Nathan, Travis, Ryan, Oscar, Katie, Anna, Dillon, Regan, Jennifer, Shaun, Gabrielle, Taylor, Cassidy, Brynn, Andrya, Max, Aria, Isaac, and Jordan; seven great grandchildren and one brother, Dr. Edward Roy of Grants Pass, OR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother Dr. Jack Roy.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday July 23, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Saturday July 24, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton, IL.
