Born on April 21, 1938 in Johnstown, PA the daughter of the late George Irving and Kathryn Playez, she resided there until WWII, moving to Alton after her father serving in the Army Air Force was killed in China Burma India Theater area. Her mother Kathryn, a dental assistant to Dr’s Botterbush and Cox, preceded her in passing this April, 2015.

Carol married Robert Starkey on September 3, 1955, he survives. Carol and family joined her husband overseas in Japan, Okinawa and Germany for ten years and several military posts in the continental United States. She was an avid Rams fan with inaugural and season tickets, as well as a member of the Clan Ram. An avid bird watcher, she loved cardinals, from watching them to collecting their memorabilia. She was an active member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Heidelberg, Germany.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years and three children; Cheryl-Ann Thompson, Carl E. Also surviving are her sister–in-law, Sandy Jones and her family, and numerous family and friends from PA to around the world. She will be sadly missed and leaves our hearts with an emptiness that will be hard to heal
