Carmen A. Piltz, 87, went to be with the Lord at 6:30 pm Monday, October 25, 2010 at St. Clare’s Health Center in Alton.
She was born on October 7, 1923 in Moro, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Alberta (Wood) Schoeneweis.
She married Lloyd E. Piltz on May 26, 1943 at the Bethalto United Methodist Church. He passed away April 17, 2003. They spent almost 60 years together.
Carmen was a substitute mail carrier for the Bethalto Post Office for 29 years, retiring in September 1988. She was a lifetime member of the Bethalto United Methodist Church, U.M.W. and held many jobs in the church. She was a member of the River Bluffs Girl Scout Council Neighborhood #6 and was the 1st neighborhood chairman, which consisted of Bethalto, Cottage Hills, Meadowbrook and Forest Homes, leader, co-leader organizer and many other volunteer positions. She was also a member of the Heartland Quilt Guild and the Razzle Dazzle Red Hatters.
She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Marsha and John Johns of Bridgeton, NJ, Patricia and Denver Pittman of Bermuda Dunes, CA, Donna and Scott Naylor of Jenera, OH and Karen Piltz of Bethalto; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Jodi & Kevin Hoopes of Bakersfield, MO, Brett & Karen Johns of Shiloh, NJ, Phillip Naylor of Torrence, CA, Matthew & Beth Naylor of Ottawa, OH, Timothy & Coral Naylor of Findlay, OH, Thomas & Erika Naylor of Arlington, OH, Anthony Pittman of LaQuinta, CA, Nicholas & Jodie Draper of Kirkland, WA, Amanda Draper of Bethalto and Aaron Draper of Bethalto; nine great grandchildren, Alex and Katey Hoopes, James, Caleb, Elisha and Asher Naylor, Isaiah & Isabelle Naylor and Hali Naylor; a sister, Carol Apple of Bethalto; a sister-in-law, Polly Schoeneweis of Bethalto; a brother-in-law, Glenn Piltz of East Alton and a sister-in-law and spouse, Virginia and Fred Kranz of East Alton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Glen Schoeneweis and a sister-in-law, Cleda Piltz.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be 11 am on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the funeral home with Pastor John Tennyson officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Bethalto United Methodist Church New Building Fund.
