Carl Walker

Carl William Walker, 66, died suddenly at 9:51 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Born March 11, 1947 in Alton, he was the son of Carl Deen and Arlene (McKinney) Walker. He married the former Marsha Diane Shewmake on June 20, 1981 in Alton. She survives. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged as SSGT E5. He was a member of the VFW Post 1308. In February of 2012, he retired from Madison County Transit. He had also worked for Laclede Steel in Alton and the Elm Street Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, surviving are a son and his wife Deen H. Walker (Cindy) of St. Petersburg, FL, a daughter and her husband, Jolee Oder (Stephen) of Minneola, FL, a twin brother and his wife, Robert H. Walker (Sandy) of Wood River, nephew, Keith Walker and his childhood friend and his wife, Gregory A. Lister (Cathy) of Nashville, TN. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Irene Cousins of Roxana, and his brother-in-law, Scott Cousins of Frankfort, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved pets, Ziggy the cat, dogs, Sloopy, Odie, Frankie, Angus and Cricket; they were all there to greet him.

Per his request, cremation rights were accorded.

A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.

Reverend Chad Tingley will officiate. Private burial will be at a later date at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the 5A’s Animal Shelter.
