Carl Wallace, Sr., 83, passed away at 3:47pm on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 2, 1932, in Grafton, Illinois, the son of the late Carl Frederick and Mary Barbara (Riley) Wallace. He married Charlotte F. Stone on January 12, 1957, in Jerseyville and she preceded him in death on April 7, 2010. Survivors include one daughter and son in law: Mary and John Walter of East Alton, one son and daughter in law: Carl (Ed) and Lauri Wallace of St. Louis, three grandchildren: Melissa Bock and her husband: Mike, Chris Walter, Lance Wallace and his companion: Kaitlin Mallinson, four great grandchildren: Lilly, Olivia, Victoria, and Eriel, three sisters and two brothers in law: Marilyn Perdun of Jerseyville, Myrna and Harold Landon of Carlinville, Barbara and John Eddings of Springfield, Illinois, two brothers and sisters in law: Riley and Joan Wallace of Las Vegas, Loren and Barb Wallace of Chandler, Arizona, a sister in law: Dee Dee Wallace of Alton, two sisters in law: Donna Cox, Pat Ufert, a brother in law: Jim Stone, his beloved dog: Jake, and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
He was formerly employed at Owens – Illinois Glass Works as a mold maker in the mold shop. He and his wife formerly owned and operated No Man’s Land from 1980 to 1993. He was a member of the East Alton American Legion Post #794, the Wood River VFW Post #2859, and the Wood River Masonic Lodge #1062 A.F. & A.M. He was a Scoutmaster for 3 years and a baseball coach for 10 years. He was on the zoning board for the Village of East Alton for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He loved to tell stories and watching basketball. He was an avid fisherman and fished at Rend Lake for 35 years where they nicknamed him Catfish Carl.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother: Jerry Wallace and a brother in law: Sonny Perdun.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, December 17, 2015, at the funeral home. His nephew, Fred Wallace will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto will full military rites by the East Alton American Legion Post #794 Ritual Team.
Memorials are suggested to the N.I.C.U. at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis and will be accepted at the funeral home.
