Carl Richard Price, 82, died at 11:29 a.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
He was born near Hardin on June 8, 1930, and was the oldest of a very large family born to the late Ollie Carl & Alberta Marie (Hunter) Price.
Carl was a U.S. Army Korean veteran, and was employed as a rigger at Laclede Steel in Alton before a tragic car accident in 1973 that left him disabled and confined to a wheelchair. A determined individual, Carl never allowed his disability to define his life. He defied many times his prognosis, and continued to trudge forward with the assistance of his loving family. He was able to lead a happy and productive life and for the last seven years, has been cared for in the home of his daughter & son in law.
He married the former Mildred Josephine Kitson on July 15, 1950 in Jerseyville, and they two shared 55 years together before her death on Sept. 16, 2005.
Surviving are his daughter & son in law, Jewel & Vernon Stumpf of Batchtown; a son and daughter in law, Gary & Cathy Price of Godfrey; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy & Samantha Stumpf of Wood River, Brent "BJ" Price of Moberly, Mo., and Karlie Jo Price of Atlanta, Ga.; four great grandchildren, Lyndsey, Alexis, Dakota and Cree Stumpf of Wood River; three sisters, Janet Price of Sterling, Sharon Elmore of Streator, and Evelyn Morris of Jerseyville; eight brothers, Leon Price of Brighton, Frank Price, David Price, Ollie Price Jr., Bruce Price, Mark Price, Larry Price all of Jerseyville, and Mike Price of Carrollton; along with over 50 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Decker, Marcella Branham, and Alberta Marie Maltimore; and three brothers, Jerry Price, James Price and Howard Price.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the Gospel Assembly in Jerseyville. Rev. Clyde Shaw will officiate.
Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with military graveside services will be conducted by the Tri County Honor Guard.
Memorials may be given to the Gospel Assembly in Jerseyville or to the Tri County Honor Guard.
