Carl Ernest Talbert, 68, died at 12:10 a.m., Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his residence after a battle with lung cancer.
He was born on May 18, 1942, one of five children born to the late Ernest & Gladys (Fitts) Talbert.
A resident of Grafton for many years, he worked on the river with numerous barge companies, retiring as a tow boat captain from Conti Carriers Barge Line, and formerly owned and operated Towboaters Bar & Grill in Grafton. He was also a member of the Busch Pilots Club of Alton.
Surviving are a sister, Dorris Davis of Fieldon and numerous neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Russell Talbert, Alfred Talbert & Walter Talbert.
Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with graveside service to immediately follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to his family in care of the funeral home.
