Carl E. Chambers, 84 passed away at 6:30 am Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home while under the care of BJC Hospice.
He was born on January 11, 1926 in Alton, IL, the son of Homer & Ida (Stewart) Chambers.
He married Delores L. Kidwell on September 7, 1946 in Alton. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2001.
Carl was a machinist at Owens Illinois Glass until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Machinist Union. He enjoyed camping and spending his winters in McAllen, TX.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine & Leonard Swearingin of Bethalto; two granddaughters, Kristy Metz of Pacific, MO and Janine Swearingin of San Diego, CA; two great grandchildren, Jerremy Kirby and Jerilyn Kirby of Bethalto; a sister, Betty Jean Rose of Baton Rouge, LA and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Kidwell of Alton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters, Cynthia Weber and Dorothy Lorraine.
Visitation will be at 9 am until service time at 11 am Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Jeff Allsman officiating.
Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice or Eunice Smith Activity Department.
