“CJ” Calvin Springer, 69, of Godfrey, IL passed away unexpectedly at his cabin on the creek where he loved to be on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
He was born May 5, 1955 in Wood River, IL the son of the late Jack and Pearl (Stamm) Springer. CJ loved fishing, mushroom hunting and farming. He enjoyed staying busy but always had time for his many friends and family. CJ was the first to lend a helping hand.
CJ is survived by the love of his life; wife Rita (Barnhart) Springer, son, Jonathan “Calvin” Springer (Brooke), three grandsons, Calvin, Jesse, and William all of West Virginia, step children, Casi and Tollie Rowry, ten grandchildren of Greenville, IL, Cari and Ernest Graves and one grandson of Greenville, IL, sisters; Nancy and Larry Mobley of Godfrey, Joannie and Mike Cassens of Jerseyville, Carol Springer of Elsah, IL., brothers, Jackie Springer of Godfrey and Ronnie Springer of West Alton.
CJ was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Glen, Neil and Danny Springer.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Beltrees, IL Pastor Matt Gonzales will officiate.
