SHIPMAN- Calvin Carl Shaw, 79, died at 11:05 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Bluffdale, Greene County, Illinois on Jan. 2, 1933, and was one of eleven children born to the late Hubert & Agnes (Wilhilmy) Shaw.Calvin attended Jersey Community High School and upon completion of his junior year, enlisted with the U.S. Army serving honorably for eight years, including time spent in the Korean War.Upon returning home, Calvin began working as a meatcutter at the Shipman Locker and retired when the business closed after 30 years of service.He married the former Lois Mundy on Jan. 12, 1960 in Jerseyville, and together they have shared 52 years together.Surviving are his wife, Lois Shaw ; a daughter & son in law, Linda Sebastian, and her husband, Troy Thompson of Shipman; five grandchildren, Nathanial, Jarrett, Garrett, Brett and Brent Sebastian; a sister, Ada Short of Jerseyville; and a brother, John Shaw of Plainview.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a beloved grandson, Triston Sebastian; a sister, Anna Turner; six brothers, Paul Edward, Claude, James, George William, Clyde, Hubert, and an infant brother, Charles Herman Shaw.Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Friday at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with Rev. Terry Turner officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492.Memorials may be given to his family in care of Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville who is in charge of the arrangements.
