SHIPMAN-  Buford Leland Sample, 91, died at 9:15 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 at his residence.He was born in Eckley, Colorado on June 11, 1921, one of three children born to the late Hillard & Lora (Myers) Sample.Buford was employed as an electrician for over 30 years with Camp Electric in Alton, retiring in 1983.  He was a member of the Grafton Full Moon Masonic Lodge and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.  However, he will be most remembered for his fierce love for his family and his outgoing personality and wonderful sense of humor.He married the former Irene Wade on Aug. 8, 1943 in Jerseyville, and they shared 62 years together before her death on May 15, 2006.  Together they resided in Piasa Township in rural Jersey County for many years and raised their family of four children.Surviving are three children & their spouses,  Lawrence Ray & Donna Sample on Genoa, Nevada, David & Rosalyn Sample of Goleta, Ca., and Jody & Steven Kemp of Strafford, Mo.; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a daughter in law, Kathy Sample of Morrow, Ohio; and very longtime friends and extremely loving caregivers, Ron & Linda Johnson and their families of Shipman.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irene Sample, a son, William Sample on Sept. 14, 2012; a sister, Gladys Ridenour; and a brother, Lester Sample.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where Masonic services will be conducted at 7 p.m.A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dow Southern Baptist Church in Dow, Il., with the Rev. David Brown officiating.Burial will be in the Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.Memorials may be given to the Dow Southern Baptist Church where he was a member.
