Billie Joseph Wooten, 88, died at 12:25 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at Robings Manor in Brighton. A son of the late William and Mary (Moody) Wooten he was born in the Pleasant Valley community near Brinkley, Arkansas on May 23, 1924. He married the former Evelyn Deeder on June 30, 1973. She survives. Also surviving are his four children by a previous marriage, Billie D. (Brenda) Wooten of Valparaiso, IN, Susan Carrigton of Creve Coeur, MO, Terry (Linda) Wooten of Godfrey, and Sheila (Mark) Miller of St. Louis, MO. He also leaves several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and step-children, Brenda (Dean) Oehler of Godfrey, Don (Jeanette) Deeder of Godfrey, Cindy (Larry) Holt of Brighton, and step-grandchildren. Bill owned the Milton Barber Shop in the Milton area of Alton for 54 years. He had retired in 2003 because of poor health. He had also previously been a volunteer fireman for the Milton area for several years and was a lifetime member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #25. He loved old cars and was a member of the Alton Antique Association for many years. He had driven his 1929 Ford sedan in several parades. He also enjoyed camping and fishing and his Beagles and Shih Tzu, Patches. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, his twin Bennie Wooten, Porter Wooten and two infant brothers, and five sisters, Aileen Mixon, Wilma Hawkins, Naoma Baird, Maurine Simpson, and Nadine Hill. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home. Reverend Ralph Blake will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
