Betty Louise Holman Kallal, 78, former Wood River resident, died at 1:24 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2010 in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
She was born in Jerseyville on May 24, 1932, the last surviving child born to the late Edward & Verna Mae (Scott) Whalen.
She first married John Holman, and spent most of their married life in the Wood River area, where they owned and operated John's Corner Tavern in downtown Wood River. After his death, Louise married Charles C. "Chuck" Kallal, and they have shared the past 20 years together.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including James & Judy Crowder of Kane.
Along with her parents and first husband John, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlene Reuter and Lorraine Crowder and two brothers, Merle Whalen and Roy Whalen.
Chapel services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, with Dr. David Beebe from the St. Johns United Church of Christ in Wood River officiating.
Burial will follow.
