Betty L. Klopfer, 82, died at 12:08 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville. Born April 26, 1928 in Alton, she was the daughter of Virginia (Coates) Brown. She retired from Owens Illinois Glass in Alton as a box maker after they closed. She then enrolled in college and became a nurse’s aid for Blu-Fountain Manor as well as a private duty nurse. She was a member of the former Cherry Street Baptist Church in Alton. On June 24, 1946 in Alton, she married Adolph Klopfer. He preceded her in death in February 1973.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Sandy Klopfer of Edwardsville, and Jack and Donna Klopfer of Glen Carbon, a son-in-law, Tom Ewing of Alton, six grandchildren; Mercy Hargis, Debbie (Randy) Dunn, Laura (Paul) Heaton, Robin (Micah) Blunt, Elizabeth Klopfer and Scott Klopfer, nine great grandchildren; John Hargis, Joshua (Brittany) Hargis, Andrew Hargis, Madison Dunn, Grace Blunt, Wyatt Blunt, Dakota Heaton, Colten Heaton, and Eva Klopfer, one sister, Earlene Wadlow of Oakley, CA, a sister-in-law, Helen Handlin of Flora, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Virginia Ewing, a son, Robert Klopfer, a daughter-in-law, Valerie Klopfer, five brothers, and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon Tuesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Reverend Dr. Glen Greenwood will officiate.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
