Betty L. Franklin, 78, died at 12:28 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, IL. Born January 17, 1934 in Alton, she was the daughter of Oscar and Kathryn (Lewis) Shewmake. Surviving is a daughter, Donna Campbell of Wood River, IL, three sons, Dennis Shaw (Mary) of Dow, Curtis Steele of Alton, and Kevin Tite of O’Fallon, MO, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a brother Chance Shewmake (Zada) of Godfrey, a sister, Margaret Ray and a special friend and companion, John Tillman. She was preceded in death by five sons, Jeffrey, Ricky, Ronnie, Clarence, and Joseph, and four sisters, Alberta Moore, Rose Springman, Lillian Williams, and Mary Callender. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012. Reverend Steve Rice will officiate.
