Bertha Lee “Esther” Kenshalo, 78, passed away at 2:52 pm Sunday, April 17, 2011 of a long term illness at the residence of Louise Molla surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on May 31, 1932 in Wood River, IL, the daughter of Rev. Clarence and Bertha (Rice) Hamilton.
She married Marvin “Ed” Kenshalo on November 27, 1952 in Alton, IL. He passed away in 2002.
Esther was employed at Alton Memorial Hospital as a dietician for four years. She was an avid church goer, where she played the piano and organ. She was formerly a member of the Bethalto Assembly of God Church and currently a member of the Bethalto Church of God. She enjoyed bowling on a league, where she won many trophies, she also loved to travel and listen to gospel music.
She is survived by her extended family, Louise Molla and her children, Christine Shadewaldt of Normal, IL, Mary and her husband, Joe Baker of Pontiac, IL and Matthew and his wife, Sandy Molla of Herrin, IL and their families; her cousins, Bill Crews, Maxine Burns, Norma Dean, Ruth Smith, Louise Loudermilk, Ann Tucker and Shirley Velma Hutton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, Clarence Edward Kenshalo and two infant daughters, Esther Lee Kenshalo and Ruth Ann Kenshalo.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue from 10 am until funeral services at 11 am Thursday, April 20, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Al Gingerich, a dear friend, officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
