Jesus Took Bernice S. Kerwin home to heaven at 6:10 pm, Thursday, July 15, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton.
She was born in Jersey county on October 12, 1921 the daughter of the late Daniel and
Ellen (Coleman) Collins.
Bernice married John Edward Kerwin on September 14, 1940 in Alton, IL. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2004.
She was employed at Owens Illinois Glass Company retiring in 1983 after many years of service. She enjoyed bingo, cooking, eating out, and especially enjoyed fishing with her husband competing for the biggest catch of the day.
She is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws; Nancy and John Garis of Holiday Shores and Barbara and Albert Oleson of Brighton, four grandchildren; Sherri Cox of Alton, IL. Carla Gervelis of Naperville, Il. John Oleson of Brighton, Il. and Kristi Shaffer of Elsah, Il. Six great grandchildren; Sam Cox, Tabitha Cox, Whitney Gervelis, William Oleson, Emily Shaffer and Daniel Shaffer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters; Theresa Stone, Rosetta LaGeesi, and Dorothy St.Peters, two brothers; Leo and Lawrence Collins.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm, Sunday July 18, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 am on Monday July 19, 2010 at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton, Il. Father Delix Michel S.S.l. will be the celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, in Godfrey, IL.
