Bernard “Bernie” Lucian Peipert, Jr., 59, passed away at 3:53 pm Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at St. Louis University Hospital with his family by his side.


Known as Benny to family, friends and co-workers, he was born on January 13, 1952 in Alton, to Bernard and Mae (Warden) Peipert.

Benny was employed as a dispatcher at Lewis and Clark Community College for 18 years and proudly served as a Madison County Election Judge.  IN prior years, Benny shared his artistic talents at Intaglio Designs Ltd. and greatly enjoyed remedying the computer malfunctions of customers and friends alike.

He rescued and dearly loved his dog, Midget, and enjoyed the outdoors, music, and computer gaming.  Benny had a wicked sense of humor and was a talented guitarist. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Shelly Peipert; his sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Steve Wegescheide, his sisters-in-law, Nancy (Peipert) Wendle and Becky (Peipert) Wilson; his nieces and nephews, Devin Peipert, Molly Peipert, Adam and Kate Peipert, Monica and Eric Emde, Scott Peipert, Elizabeth Peipert, Maggie Stutz, Matt Wegescheide, and Andy Wegescheide and a great nephew, Tucker Emde.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Larry and Mark Peipert, a sister, Mary Ellen and a sister-in-law, Rosemary (Peipert) Gaston.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Monday, August 15, 2011 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at St. Ambrose Parish in Godfrey with Father Stephen Pohlman officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.

Memorials may be made to Gateway Hemophilia Association or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
