Bennie L. McCormick, 83, passed away and went to be with the Lord at 9:02 pm on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Silvardo Hospice Senior Living.
He was born March 31, 1929 in Bollinger County, MO, the son of Edgar Lee and Effie Caroline (Farmer) McCormick.
He married Norma Lee “Pete” Lockard on June 16, 1950 in East Alton, Illinois. She survives.
Bennie served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was later employed at Western Standard Oil, Olin and 25 years at the SIUE Police Department.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Pam McCormick of Houston, TX; a daughter and son-in-law, Tarri and Dan Massalone of Houston, TX; six grandchildren; Damon McCleland and his wife, Aimee, Thomas and Joseph Massalone, Alyssa Hallman and her husband, Blake, Lindsay and Lee McCormick; two great grandchildren, Nash and Addison McCleland; a sister, Leah JoAnn Stephenson and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Shirley McCormick.
Visitation will be from 10:30 am until services at 12 noon of Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor David Bruce officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
