Barbara Ann (Norris) Marchiori
Bethalto | Saturday, September 15 2012
Barbara Ann (Norris) Marchiori, 68, was welcomed into heaven, on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 1:35pm from St. Anthony’s Health Center, after a very brief battle with cancer.
She was born on January 28, 1944 in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of Robert “Skinner” and Freda (Cook) Norris. Barb married Adelmo “Bud/Buddy” Marchiori on November 14, 1964, at the 12th Street Presbyterian Church in Alton, and he survives. They first met in the fourth grade after Buddy kissed her on the playground (even though he ran away after that first kiss) at the East Alton Lincoln Grade School.
She was a 1962 graduate of East Alton-Wood River High School. She was the proud recipient of the Laclede’s Steel Scholarship to attend St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in which she was a 1965 graduate. After graduation, she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital until her husband relocated to North Carolina in 1966. There she worked in the intensive care unit at Watt’s Hospital; Blue Cross/Blue Shield; and as a supervisor at a skilled nursing facility. When she and her family moved back to the area in the late 70s, she worked at the Edwardsville Unemployment Office; the US Bank in Alton; and the Bethalto Police Department.
She was known to her grandchildren as “Nana” and she adored each one of them. She loved giving them “goodie bags”. She also loved antiques and had a certain way of making a room say “I love you”. She loved playing bingo and peeling apples for her dog, Toodles.
Barb was a woman of great faith and believed as The Bible said “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." (Matthew 21:22). She was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church, a volunteer at the Salvation Army and at Saint Anthony’s Health Center and a member of the Red Hat Society.
Other survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Adelmo and Rebecca (Masse) Marchiori III, of Carlinville, Illinois and one daughter, Melissa Marchiori, of Wood River, four grandchildren, Adelmo Marchiori IV, Dominic Marchiori, Giovanni Marchiori, and Gabriella Marchiori, all from Carlinville. Barb is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Lucia (Laird) Norris, of Godfrey, a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bob Church, of Grant Fork, and a sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Jeff Underwood, of Jerseyville and many nieces and nephews.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, a son, and a sister, Bonnie Norris.
Visitation will be from 4:30 until a memorial service at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Joan Marshall officiating.
Inurnment will be private at Valhalla.
Memorials may be made to Saint Anthony’s Hospice Services or to College Avenue Presbyterian Church, both of which are in Alton. A special Thank You and Many Blessings to the Sisters, nurses and doctors of Saint Anthony’s Health Center and their Hospice Services.
