Anneliese Susanne Dew

Anneliese Susanne Dew, 88, passed away at 1:05 pm Friday November 11, 2011 at Eunice Smith Nursing home, with her family by her side.

She was born on June 30, 1923 in Marburg, Germany, the daughter of the late General Günther & Anna Margarette (Schollmeyer) Blumentritt.

She married James M. Dew in 1948 in Marburg, Germany. He preceded her in death after 52 years of marriage in February of 2000.

Anneliese worked as a kindergarten teacher in Germany for many years. She came to the United States from Germany in 1953, coming through Ellis Island and became a United States citizen on November 14, 1956. She loved gardening and reading, but family was her main priority. 

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy and her husband Tom Brown of Alton, and Margaret Dew, of Dallas, TX; a grandson, Jim Brown and his wife Kristina of Arnold, MO; one sister, Ursula Kerl of Munich, Germany; a brother in law, John “Buck” Dew of Estill Spring, TN; three sisters in law, Shirley White and Jack of New Orleans, LA, Mary Jane Merritt of Burlington Junction, MO, and Laura Lee Younger, of Olathe, KS; a niece, Sybille and Karl Lorenzer of Badfüssing, Germany; a grand niece Katarina; and two grand nephews Daniel and Dominic.  

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by five sisters in law, Bernadine Shipley, Roberta Miller, Bonnie Riddle, Anna Rose Boyd, and Ellie Dew.

In celebration of her life a visitation will be held at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey, IL on Tuesday November 15, 2011 from 9 am until time of service at 11am, with Pastor Jerry MeCaskey officiating.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, IL.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Evangelical United Church of Christ.
