Anne Elizabeth Allton, 93, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at 1:18 a.m. in Integrity Healthcare.

  Born in Fosterburg on Feb. 21, 1923, she was the daughter of Roy R. and Marvel (Clyne) Johnson.  She was a lifelong resident of the Alton-Godfrey area.

  Upon graduating Alton High School in 1941 she attended the University of Illinois for two years pursuing a course to be a dietician. Before retiring in 1985, Mrs. Allton worked for the Olin Corporation.

  Her greatest passion was children. She volunteered 20 years as a Foster Grandparent in the Alton School System, positively impacting the lives of many children.  Her hobbies included cooking, decorating cakes, travel, and collecting spoons. 

 In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Richard H. Allton, and a brother, Robert R. Johnson. She was also a descendant of Martin Pruitt and Henry Rule II, who fought in the Revolutionary War.

  Family members include two daughters, Kathleen Huffman (Jim) of Morrisville, N.C., and Diane Klyne-Allton of Alton; daughter-in-law, Chong Cha Allton of Godfrey, five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister Helen Rice of Godfrey; nieces, nephews and cousins.

  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
