Anna Marie Eckert, age 98, of Glen Carbon, IL, formerly of Collinsville, has finally achieved her goal of entering Heaven. On Sunday, May 22, 2022, while holding the hand of her loving grandson Tim, Anna left this earth to join her husband Lewis in Heaven.
Anna was born on August 30, 1923, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Hageman) Roustio. She married Lewis George Eckert on August 3, 1947; he preceded her in death. Together they raised three children: Cindy, Edward, and Martin.
Anna graduated from Collinsville High School in 1941. She was a member of the Collinsville High School Band which won First Place in District, State, and finally National contests three consecutive years, 1938-40. She was also a member of the St. Louis Symphony Children’s Orchestra. She was proficient in French Horn, Cornet, and Violin.
Anna and her husband Lewis were Charter Members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville. Anna was a devout Christian and served her church in a variety of capacities including teaching Sunday School, singing in the Church Choir, and holding several offices in the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League.
Anna was a stay-at-home mother who taught her children the joy of music and listening to the Cardinals on the radio. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, crafting, gardening, and cake decorating. After Lewis’ retirement, they enjoyed many winters in Texas where she volunteered in the Helping One Student to Succeed program at a local grade school.
In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Edward Roustio, and sister-in-law, Lillian Roustio. She leaves behind to share fond memories of her children: Cindy and Larry Lolley of Alton, Edward Eckert of Alton, Martin and Kathy Eckert of Normal, IL; grandchildren: Richard Lewis Eckert of Davenport, Florida, and Tim Lolley of Alton; four great-grandchildren: Lucien, Savanah, and Alexandra Eckert and Ronin Fish; grandson, Chris Lolley, and great-granddaughter, Cassidy, who despite distance maintained a loving relationship; and a much-loved niece, Joy (Kent) Green of Concord, MA. The family would like to give special recognition to her friends and family at Eunice Smith Home where she received the love and support she needed in her final years.
