Anna Frances Johnson, 92, passed away at 11:02pm on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. She was born on April 19, 1922, in Joplin, Missouri the daughter of the late Roy and Rosa Lee (Smith) Hill.

Frances married Thomas W. Johnson on June 29, 1942, in St. Louis and he preceded her in death. Frances, her husband Tom, and children Tommye Lee and Mike traveled across the world as Sgt. Johnson pursued his career in the United States Air Force. When Tom retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service to his country, the family settled back in South Roxana in order for Frances to be close to her beloved parents. Frances began working for the Roxana School District in 1959 working in various positions. Frances truly enjoyed the years she worked for the school district. She loved people she worked with, especially the ‘kids.” In 1978, after great deal of soul searching, Frances decided to retire from the school district she dearly loved in order to spend more time with and be able to travel with her husband Tom. Frances’ primary goal in this life has been to provide for her family and spend time with her children and grandchildren whom she nurtured, supported, and loved. She enjoyed family get togethers and looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frances also loved to watch the Cardinals and Dancing with the Stars. She also enjoyed visiting with her favorite dog Sugar who will definitely miss her and the treats she spoiled her with.
