Ann A. Krause(née Appleton), 89, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon, surrounded by love. Born on Thursday, September 5, 1935, in St. Louis, MO, Ann embraced a life full of purpose, devotion, and grace, leaving behind a legacy cherished by all who knew her.

Ann was devoted to shaping young minds as an English teacher in the Metro-East and Fort Smith, Arkansas, where her passion for education had a lasting impact on her students and colleagues. A cornerstone of her community, she was a faithful and active member of Union United Methodist Church in Belleville, Illinois, finding joy and purpose in her faith. For 65 years, Ann was a proud and dedicated member of PEO Chapter CT, forming cherished friendships and supporting the organization’s mission of advancing educational opportunities for women. She was also a member of the Excelsior Club and a former member of the St. Clair Country Club, where she cultivated her love for fellowship, service, and sharing the pleasures of life with all she encountered.

She was preceded in death by her:

  • Parents: William G. Appleton Sr. and Virginia (née Voorheis) Appleton
  • Brother: Dr. William Appleton Jr.
  • Sister: Judy Kram

Surviving are her:

  • Devoted husband of 64 years: Norman C. Krause of Glen Carbon, IL
  • Children
    • Norman “Chip” (Therese) Krause of Fairview Heights, IL
    • Lori A. (Kirk) Baldridge of Coppell, TX
  • Grandchildren
    • Gregory (Sarah) Krause of Swansea, IL
    • Brian Krause
    • Erik Krause
    • Nicole Baldridge
    • Kyle Baldridge
  • Great-granddaughter: Blair Krause
  • She is also lovingly remembered by her dear nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Memorials:Memorials may be made to the P.E.O.- Cottey College or Alzheimer’s Association.

Wake and visitationwill be held on Saturday, December 28, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL, and a private family burial will occur at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL.
