Godfrey |

On Monday, April 2, 2012, Alta Ruth (Mason) Auten, a living example of the Proverbs 31 woman, went home to be with her Lord. After battling crippling arthritis for many years she is now in her new glorified body. She was born to the late Edwin and Stella (Vancil) Mason in Morrisonville IL on April 16, 1932. She married James O. Auten Jr., of Jamestown, AR, on Sept. 5, 1954 in Piedmont, Mo. He preceded her in death. One of eleven children she is survived by six sisters: Marcella Paul of Shipman , Alma Jones of Wood River, Dorothy Dawson of Godfrey, Evelyn Fletcher of Godfrey, Audrey Goodwin of St. Louis, Mo. She was a homemaker and above all a mother. She is survived by her children: Pattie Auten of Godfrey, Joyce Hocker (and husband William) of Highland, Rev. Kevin Auten (and wife Melissa) of Moro, and Kent Auten (wife Sonja) of Jerseyville. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Elizabeth, Don, and Katie Hocker of Highland, Jeffery and Kirsten Auten of Moro, and Emily and Seth Auten of Wood River and four step grandchildren; Allen, Whitney, Ashley, and Megan Damron all of Jerseyville. She was awaited in Heaven by five more grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Donald, David, and Ralph Mason, and two sisters, Pearl Gvillo, and Ora Palmer. Living her life based on God’s Word and by her philosophy that “your success is measured by what you leave for the next generation”, she is also survived by her church family, and by many children (now young adults), to whom she dedicated her life ministering to, through her babysitting, and her church ministry. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at her church, Faith Baptist Church in Godfrey at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012. Her Pastor, Rev. Tom Olney will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to the Mississippi Valley Christian School in Alton.
