Alice Horn Fischer

Alice Cecelia Fischer, 87, died peacefully at 10:10 pm Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey, IL with her family at her side.

She was born in Alton, IL on September 12, 1926, the daughter of the late Matthew John and Ella Mae (Borntrager) Horn.

Alice married Louis Gordon Fischer on July 30, 1955 in Alton. Gordon preceded her in death on December 31, 2001.

Upon graduation from Alton High School and until her children were born, Alice worked at Miller’s Mutual Insurance Company. After her children were grown, she worked at Gubser Apple Insurance Agency, and then at Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton, where she was also a long time member.

Alice was a talented actress and starred in many lead roles at Alton High School and Alton Little Theater. After retiring from the stage, she loved to don a homemade costume and use her talents and wonderful sense of humor to entertain at school, community, and church functions, delighting audiences young and old alike.

Alice had a great love for her family, friends, and church. She had an innate ability to make others feel better, whether it was with her gentle touch, an encouraging word, her sweet smile, or by singing a song. She has now joined the choir of angels – and Gordon is surely the accompanist. She will be greatly missed and forever loved and remembered.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Ellen and C.B. Jackson of Godfrey, IL, Ann and Van Wilson of Mt. Sterling, IL, Jane and Peter Lawrence of St. Louis, MO, and Thomas and Jane Fischer of Godfrey, IL and her grandchildren, Matthew, Jane, David and Thomas Jackson, Kristen and Jacob Wilson, Samuel, Mary and Adam Lawrence, and Betsy and Will Fischer.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Annamae Lammers, four brothers, Nelson, Matthew, David and William Horn, and two grandchildren, Emily Fischer and Drew Wilson.

In celebration of her life a visitation will be held from 9am until time of service at 11 am, Friday, November 22, 2013 at Main St. United Methodist Church in Alton with Pastor Jame Hahs officiating.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, IL.

Memorials may be made to Main St. United Methodist Church in Alton or Blu-Fountain Manor Activity Department in Godfrey.
